Weekend in the provinces

My friends John & Sabine came up for the weekend. They call it 'visiting the provinces.' I guess because Ventura is so laid-back and uncrowded compared to Los Angeles. It was a great weekend.

Friday night, in the light rain, we tried to go to Tacos N Beer - but of course they were out of everything by the time we arrived at 7 pm, so we went to Brophy Bros in the harbor for fish & chips (this is very Wisconsin, having a fish fry on a Friday night). Then we watched 'Blades of Glory' (pretty funny, especially if you're a winter olympic and/or figure skating fan).

Saturday was a beautiful, sunny 60-degree day. So we all went for a bike ride along the coast. On the way back from our ride, we hit Tacos N Beer for a late lunch. Tacos N Beer is a taqueria where they make your food to order and also have Tecate on tap. You sit at a long counter, fill in a little order sheet (flour or corn or hard shell, choice of main filling), and eventually you get your food. The decor is minimal, but the Ahi flour tacos (with both white & fire sauces) are absolutely incredible!! And $2.50 for a 12-0z beer? Can't go wrong! There's usually a wait to get a seat at the counter and to get your order - ALWAYS worth it. It's sooooooo good!

Saturday night we watched football (Patriots vs. Giants), and John made his famous Wisconsin organic popcorn. Topped the day off right!

John & Sabine's visit was a fantastic combination of Wisconsin and Ventura, sort of like my Green Bay Packer flip-flops :-)
