I've been riding my bike a lot lately. Today, I pulled the 'old' bike down (650cm-wheeled steel-framed Fuji) to find a hole in the tire. The tube was bulging out through the tiny hole in the side of the tire. Pumped it up, rode one block, and BAM! It blew.
Fortunately, a year or so ago I bought a second-hand Giant OCR1 (aluminum frame) 700cm-wheeled bike from a co-worker. Rode it a few times, but couldn't get the fit quite right, so I hung it up for 'later.'
'Later' arrived today.
I pulled it down, pumped up the tires, tightened the important parts and lubed the chain.
No wind today, with a big storm predicted tomorrow, so I wanted to get a good long ride in. Started north up the coast. I had to stop a bunch of times to tweak the bike. Raised the seat. Lowered the handlebars and lowered the seat. Ahhhhh...
Did a long ride (abou 40 miles, I think, and at a pretty decent pace). Unfortunately, the computer on the Giant was kaput. So I don't know how far or how fast I rode. I do know that I was TOAST by the time I got home. Didn't take enough sugar with me, and I ran out of gas over those last few miles. Lactic acid in the quads....
Scariest part is riding on the 101 freeway. Yes, FREEWAY. Nothing like a semi truck roaring by you at 70 when you're on a bike. There is a decent bike lane, but still....
It was a nice day (foggy 65), and supremely enjoyable. I will have to get a new tire for the Fuji. But I like the Giant - although a few more tweaks are in order, and a new battery for the computer.
